How to Care for Your Flowers

You have new flowers! Now what?
Step #1

Getting Your Flowers Ready

Grab the vase from your first delivery (or the vase of your choice) and have it at the ready. Remove the cellophane wrapped flowers from the paper bag and place it in a sink so when you untie the cellophane, all the water goes down the drain.

Locate the packet of flower food at the bottom of the paper bag and fill your vase with water and a little bit of food. A little goes a long way, so divide up your packet across several water changes.

Step #2

Trimming for the Perfect Fit

An easy way to ensure a good fit is to put your vase at the edge of the counter, then hold the bouquet next to the vase with the bottom of the flowers at the top of the vase. Using sharp scissors, trim the stems in line with the vase bottom.

It might feel scary to cut off so much stem, but trust the process. Your bouquet has been designed to sit at the top of the vase.

Step #3

Keep It Together or Let It Flow

To untie or leave tied? It’s up to you. Leaving it tied means the bouquet will hold as is. Once cut into your vase of choice you should not be able to see the bind wire.

If you choose to untie, the bouquet should stay spiraled and mostly in place — however, the vase opening will determine how loose or airy the flowers will lay. It’s a personal choice; both styles are lovely.

Step #4

Your Bloom-Care Routine

To keep your flowers looking their best for as long as possible, it’s important to keep the water clean and the stems drinking.

Every couple of days, lift the whole arrangement out of the vase, giving a little snip to the bottom of the stems to remove any brown or squishy bits. Rinse out the vase and refill with a little bit of the flower food and fresh water.
